List of 100 Crore movies in Tamil Cinema

Reaching the 100 crore club is a tremendous task not only in Kollywood but even in Bollywood. The target audience is huge for Hindi audience compared to regional movies like Tamil, Telugu. Still we have a big list of 100 crore movies in Tamil cinema. If a movie made with 70 crore and above budget receives mixed reviews, it is sure to reach the 100 crore club but its just an average movie (sometimes it can be a loss venture as well)  because of its huge budget. When the movie is made in 70 crore budget and receives negative reviews, it cannot reach the 100 crore club and is sure to be a disaster.

Here are some Tamil movies which fall into the 100 crore club. Sorted from lowest to highest.

1. Dasavatharam (2008)

This Kamal Hassan’s movie was made with 52 crore budget. It grossed 105 crore in box office and net collection was 87 crore. It was a blockbuster movie and garnered profit for producer, distributors and theatre owners.

2. 24 (2016)

Suriya’s 24 was made with 56 crore budget and it grossed 106 crore in box office and 80 crore in net collection. It was a below average movie. Though it garnered profit for producer, it was a loss for the distributors.

3. Viswaroopam (2013)

This Kamal Hassan starrer was made with a budget of 65 crore and garnered 107 crore in box office and net collection was 83 crore. Since the movie ran into legal issues, it was termed as average and was a loss for distributors.

4. 7 Am Arivu (2011)

This Suriya movie was made with 74 crore budget and grossed 107 crore in box office (along with Telugu version) and net collection was 85 crore. It was a superhit movie, though it was a loss for the producer.

5. Singam 3 (2017)

Another Suriya movie made with 63 crore budget and grossed 111 crore in box office and 91 crore in net collection. Though it was a profit for producer, it was termed as below average after the loss for distributors.

6. Bairavaa (2017)

This Vijay movie was made with 55 crore and garnered 112 crore in box office and 93 crore in net collection. An average movie, it made profit for producer and loss for distributors.

7. Kanchana 2 (2015)

Lawrence’s well-known Kanchana 2 was made with a budget of 20 crore. It collected 115 crore in box office and 89 crore in net collection. It was a blockbuster and garnered profit for producer and distributors.

8. Vedalam (2015)

Ajith’s Vedalam was made with 54 crore budget and it grossed a whopping 119 crore in box office and 100 crore in net collection. It was a blockbuster and gained profit for both producer and distributors.

9. Singam 2 (2013)

This Suriya movie was made with 59 crore and grossed a huge amount of 123 crore in box office and 104 crore in net collection. A blockbuster, it brought profit for producer and distributors.  Singam 3 or S3 released in 2017 did not become as profitable as Singam 2

10. Thuppaki (2012)

Vijay’s Thuppaki was made with 70 crore budget and it collected 129 crore in box office and 110 crore in net collection. Declared a blockbuster, this was a huge profit for producer and distributors.

11. Lingaa (2014)

This Superstar Rajnikanth’s movie was made with 114 crore. Grossed 132 crore in box office and 103 crore in net collection. A huge disaster, this movie garnered a loss to distributors and became a controversy lasted for few years

12. Kaththi (2014)

This Vijay movie was made with 74 crore budget and it collected 132 crore in box office and 107 crore in net collection. It was a superhit movie and garnered profit for both producer and distributors.

13. Sivaji (2007)

Superstar Rajnikanth starrer Sivaji was made with 59 crore budget. However, it grossed 151 crore in box office and 125 crore in net collection. Declared as all-time blockbuster, this was a huge profit for producer and distributors. First 100 crore movie in South India and second in India (after Aamir khan’s Ghajini). This led to the next association between Shankar and Rajni in 2010 blockbuster Enthiran the Robot

14. Theri (2016)

Vijay’s Theri was made with 76 crore budget and it grossed 157 crore in box office and 127 crore in net collection. A superhit movie, this was a huge profit for producer and distributors.

15. I (2015)

This Vikram was made with a budget of 117 crore. It garnered a whopping 233 crore in box office and 171 crore in net collection. Though it was a hit movie, it garnered few losses for distributors.

16. Endhiran (2010)

Made with a budget of 130 crore, this Superstar Rajnikanth’s movie grossed 278 crore in box office and 227 crore in net collection. A runaway blockbuster, this movie was a huge profit for producer and distributors.

17. Kabali (2016)

Another Superstar Rajnikanth movie, it was made with 111 crore and grossed 297 crore in box office and 223 crore in net collection. Declared as an above average movie, this movie suffered losses for distributors and gained profit for producer.

18. Mersal (2017)

The second association from Vijay and Atlee made a box office winner. The movie was produced over a budget of 100 crores by Thenandal films as it was their prestigious 100th movie. There was lot of controversies before and after the release of the movie, still Mersal managed to win at the box office and collect around 200 crores world wide including Tamil and Telugu versions. The post release political controversies helped the movie in the box office
