A few days ago, the album of blockbuster movie Mersal hit 1 million streams on music platform on Saavn and broke all the previous records. Directed by Atlee and starring Thalapathy Vijay, Mersal grossed 251 crore last year and served as Vijay’s highest-grossing film ever. Vijay portrayed triple roles in the movie, while Samantha Akkineni, Kajal Aggarwal and Nithya Menen played the female leads. S.J. Suryah appeared as the antagonist. Academy Award winner A.R. Rahman composed the music for this movie. Produced by Sri Thenandal Films, this commercial movie was released during last Deepavali.

Now, another feather has been added to the movie’s cap. Mersal has won the prestigious Best Foreign Language Film award in the National Awards conducted in UK. Vijay was also nominated for the award of Best Supporting Actor, but lost it to actor Robert Webb for the television series Back. Mersal has already won many accolades such as Best Actor, Best Musis Director, Best Playback Singer and Best Costume Designer in Ananda Vikatan Awards.
