Anando Brahma fame Mahi V. Raghav is directing a biopic based on the life of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy. The well-known chief minister passed away in a plane crash in 2009. A few days ago, it was confirmed that Malayalam actor Mammootty will be playing the role of Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy. This is the comeback movie for Mammootty in Tollywood after his last outing Railway Coolie, which was released exactly two decades ago.
Apart from Railway Coolie, Mammootty has also acted in two other Telugu movies, namely Swathi Kiranam and Surya Putrulu. This new biopic is tentatively titled as Yatra and it is produced by 70mm Entertainment. There is already an old Malayalam film with the title Yatra in which Mammootty acted earlier so if the new movie happens then it will be the second one for him with same title. There are also reports that Lady Superstar Nayanthara will be playing the wife of Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy.
The latest buzz around this movie is that Keerthy Suresh is likely to sign on the dotted line for this biopic. She will be playing the role of Y.S. Rajasekhar’s daughter-in-law. However, no official news regarding this has been released yet. If Keerthy Suresh takes up this movie, then this will be the second biopic for her after the Nag Ashwin directed Mahanati (Nadigaiyar Thilagam in Tamil). She is also busy with other big projects like Thalapathy 62, Sandakozhi 2 and Saamy 2.
The shooting for this biopic will begin in June and the makers are eyeing for a release before 2019 elections. This movie is also likely to be made in Tamil and other languages. The storyline will primarily focus on the chief minister’s famed Padayatra which he took in 2003.
