It is Women’s Day and we look at some of the actresses who have made a mark for themselves by doing heroine-centric roles in Kollywood.

She has been the reigning queen of Tamil cinema. Her movies Imaikka Nodigal and Kolamaavu Kokila went on to become hits. If she was a police officer in Imaikka Nodigal, she played a timid drug peddler who wants to save her mom in Kolamaavu Kokila. Her movie Aramm in 2017 was also a woman-centric film that gave her career a big boost.

After completing 16 years in Tamil cinema, Trisha has cemented her place and has become one of the sought-after heroines thanks to 96. She had a women-centric movie Mohini out last year. Though it did average business, still her character(s) were praised. She is playing the lead in Garjani, which is a remake of the Bollywood hit NH10.

She played the titular role in Nadigayar Thilagam and brought Savithri before the eyes of the audience. The biopic of veteran actress Savithri was her biggest success and it also brought out her acting prowess. Her on-screen presence meant a successful run for the movie in both Tamil and Telugu.

With her comeback in Kollywood, Jyothika has only been acting in women-centric movies. The actress has been choosing strong women-centric movies to create a mark for herself. In 36 Vayadhinile and Magalir Mattum she was welcomed well. In Bala’s Naachiyar she played a tough police officer. Her rude ways on screen were hailed by all. Soon followed Mani Ratnam’s Chekka Chivatha Vaanam. Her subtle emotions and dialogue delivery were one of the highlights. Kaatrin Mozhi was a complete ball game and she did justice to the role. She played a housewife who chases her dream to become Radio Jockey.

Now she has started shooting for her next which in an untitled comedy entertainer that is directed by Gulebagavali fame Kalyan. The movie has yesteryear actress Revathy in a prominent role. This movie is said to be an out and out comedy flick and will be woman-centric.
