Mr. Chandramouli Music Review

Movie: Mr. Chandramouli

Cast: Karthik, Gautham Karthik, Regina Cassandra, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar

Director: Thiru

Music director: Sam CS

1. Kallooliye – Sam CS, Swagatha Krishnan

Sam CS begins the album with an interesting romantic number. There are some innovative arrangements here, which would surely appeal to new-gen music lovers. The tune would sink in only on the second listen. Sam CS’ modulated voice brings in a quirky mood to the number, while Swagatha Krishnan’s brief rendition in the second para provides freshness. Though the number is a good one-time listen, it might be aired repeatedly in radio stations.

2. Kandapadi – Guna, Sam CS

With some funny instrumentation, this number makes for a light-hearted listen. The tune reminds of Kakidha Kappal from the 2014 movie Madras. But the comparisons stop there, as the tune progression is different here and Guna’s rollicking rendition is a plus point. This playful jazzy number might appeal only to a portion of music lovers, despite having chartbuster elements.

3. Yedhedho Aanene – Sam CS, Chinmayi Sripaada

Yet another interesting romantic melody is up next in the album. However, this one scores two notches higher than Kallooliye in terms of arrangement and tune composition. The overall mood reflects Ilaiyaraaja’s romantic duets. Sam CS indulges in some brilliant orchestration and he croons like a dream. Chinmayi Sripaada’s honeyed rendition is flawless and the song can be listened on repeat mode just for her voice. The intricacies present in this number can be understood only after subsequent listens. Magnificent!

4. Raajadhi Raja – Ranjith, Mukesh Mohammed, Sam CS

Here’s a mass number that is sure to scorch the screens after the movie’s release. Especially, this number would work just for the Raajadi Raja Naan Raja…lines, which are a tribute to the yesteryear number from the movie Agni Natchathiram. Ranjith, Mukesh Mohammed and Sam CS put up a radiant show with their singing. Though there’s nothing new in the arrangements, it can climb the charts in the upcoming days.

5. Theeradho Vali – Haricharan

This is a slow-paced pathos with a heartmelting tune. Sam CS brings in some ebullient violins that elevate the gloomy mood of the number. The song brings out the pain of the protagonist on losing a loved one. Haricharan is simply brilliant in his rendition. A special mention to the mellowed rhythm and flute sections in the interlude. Lyrics by Sam CS are moving and they strike the right chord. Hit the repeat button!

6. Mr. Chandramouli Theme – Sam CS, Brindha Sivakumar

Sam CS indulges in a clever move by roping in actor Suriya’s sister Brindha Sivakumar to croon this number. She has a mellifluous voice that is suitable for low-pitch melodious songs. Sam CS complements her well with his excellent vocals. The jazzy rhythm and the arrangement of strings deserve a special mention. Overall, a beautiful number to be enjoyed with your loved ones!

Verdict:

Mr. Chandramouli  has some interesting songs that appeal to new-gen youngsters. Sam CS has pushed the envelope by bringing in innovative orchestration and rhythm patterns.
