Though comedy seems to be the order of the day in Tamil cinema, Mr Local has indeed bypassed it. Directed by M Rajesh the movie is nothing but mindless comedy that has two leading actors in it. The entire movie is about the Tom-and-Jerry relationship between Manohar (Sivakarthikeyan) and Keerthana (Nayanthara).
The plot starts in jail in Paris where Manohar is seen playing football. He then narrates his flashback, well we need to wait till the end of the movie to know why he actually landed in jail. Manohar is a middle-class youngster who works in a car showroom. His life is made up of his friends (Sathish and Yogi Babu), mother (Radhika) and sister (Harija). He encounters KV Entertainment’s MD Keerthana Vasudevan and the two start off in the wrong side. They fight right from the start and at one point, Manohar falls in love with Keerthana. The rest of the story is about how he can win his lady love’s heart.
Radhikaa plays the ideal dotting mother who is also obsessed with TV soaps. The storyline is very thin and it actually tests your patience as you manage to sit through the movie. What is suprising that this mindless comedy has caught the interest of two of the most happening actors in Tamil cinema – Sivakarthikeyan and Nayanthara.
Although the plot is weak, these two actors have indeed given their best. Sivakarthikeyan has manged to bring some smile to the audience, while Nayanthara has been at her best. The music is average, except for the song Taakkunu Takkunu, nothing else is impressive. In short, Mr Local is predictable right from the start.
Sivakarthikeyan and Nayanthara look good on screen
It is a Sivakarthikeyan movie through and through
Ineffective onlines that does not evoke laughter
Final line: A cat and mouse game between a guy and girl, who try to outsmart each other.
