The President of India Pranab Mukherjee presented the National Film Awards of this year to the winners on Wednesday, May 3, 2017. Mr Mukherjee said at the ceremony “Indian cinema and its diversity conveys the underlying spirit of brotherhood, tolerance, acceptance and co-existence”.
The nomination was included for the six film industries from the south that comprise of Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Tulu and Konkani — bagged a total of 18 awards, while movies from Assam, Bengal, Maharashtra and Manipur also won in different categories. There were 344 feature films in 26 languages from which the awards were chosen this year. Coming to Tamil film industry, they also received several awards in different categories.
The awards for the best male playback singer went to Sundharayyar for Tamil movie Joker for the song ‘Jasmine E. The best Tamil film award goes to the Joker movie. This is a Tamil political mockery film which was written and directed by Raju Murugan who is the fame of Cuckoo movie. The film was produced by S. R. Prabhu under the banners of Dream Warrior Pictures. The best Cinematography and Production design were honoured to Suriya film 24. The cinematography of the film was done by S. Thiru. Director Vasanth and Dhananjayang also received the National award for given out the best film that portrays the social issues and the best critic review respectively. The best lyrist Tamil award goes to Vairamuthu for the song Entha Pakkam from the film Dharmadurai. We have already shared the entire National Award Winners list from Kollywood.
