Chandramukhi-2005

Chandramukhi Interesting Facts

Rajni decided not to feature smoking scenes starting from this movie for a good cause though his fans like to see his style of smoking.

The movie title was recommended by Rajinikanth as he felt Chandramukhi was more Royal than the original name "Nagavalli"

A sequel entitled Chandramukhi 2 was set to be made featuring Rajnikanth but he declined the film and the script was passed along to Ajith who also declined. Since no film producers at the time wanted to pick up the film, the rights to the film were sold to a Telugu director. The spiritual sequel to Chandramukhi, Nagavalli, starring Venkatesh Daggubati and Anuskha Shetty was released in 2010 in the Telugu language. The film features partial dialogues in Tamil during the flashback scenes of Chandramukhi and the king, however a dubbed version of the film in the Tamil language never released.

The film broke the trend from the 90s, where all of Rajinikanth's Tamil films would be named after or in reference of his character. Chandramukhi is the name of the female antagonist in this film.

Actress Simran was initially cast to play the role of Ganga/Chandramukhi but opted out after one week of filming due to her pregnancy.

Remake of malayalam blockbuster Manichithrathazhu

Instead he decide to remake the hit Kannada film, Shivalinga, in Tamil and marketed the project as Chandramukhi 2 but the title was later changed to Sivalinga. Sivalinga has no connections to Chandramukhi and was in released in April 2017 starring Raghava Lawrence and Ritika Singh.
