The officers from Central Board of Film Certification (Censor Board) had personally congratulated the director Shankar for making a bold movie that speaks to the society in a grand way.

The first Indian movie to be dubbed into French. Columbia Tristar bought the dubbing rights for broadcast in French-speaking nations.

Main inspiration for the movie was from Sidney Sheldon's famous novel 'Tell Me Your Dreams'.

About 200 (approx) still-cameras was used to create "bullet-time" effect in the particular fight scene.

This is the first movie directed by Shankar to not have music by A.R. Rahman.

Vikram described his role in Anniyan as the most difficult one of his career.

Fighters from abroad as well as martial artists from all over the state were used in the multi-opponent fight scene.

This film marked the singing debut of Saindhavi and of G. V. Prakash Kumar as an adult. The pair, who were also schoolmates, later got married in 2013.

Music from The Passion of the Christ has been lifted and can be heard throughout. The music is from The Resurrection.

The film's highlight is the Thiruvaiyaru music festival. Well known exponents like Kunnakudi R Vaidhyanathan, Sudha Raghunathan and Unnikrishnan appear in the scene, which is a recreation of the real festival.

It is the first film featuring Vikram in the lead to have a theatrical release in Hindi.

The film is being remade in Hindi with Ranveer Singh as the lead.
