The total runtime of Visual FX in this movie was more than Jurassic Park (1993) and was featured in Guinness Book of World Records for some time.

Originally the song "Anbe Anbe" was recorded with less percussion than what it has now. A R Rahman, who composed the song, gave it to director Shankar for picturisation. After seeing the visuals of the song, Rahman decided to add more sound effects to the song to make it rich.

The movie was initially titled "genes". Later the makers thought that the word "genes" would not appeal to semi urban and rural viewers . Hence they renamed the movie to a much trendy name "jeans" .

Raju Sundaram who plays the role of Aishwarya Rai's brother, is also the dance choreographer of the movie.

Bollywood Brass Band did a instrumental version of "Kehta Hai Mera Dil" for the album Rahmania.

Part of the film's story line was based on the story of Sridevi's mother who had surgery on the wrong side of her brain.

The song Columbus was picturised as it was on the shores of Venice Beach, California. But it was shot on a set made by Art Director Thotta Tharani in Pondicherry Serenity Beach with some foreign male and female dancers.

The initial roles for the lead was offered to Abbas and subsequently Ajith Kumar. However both declined due to non availability of dates. Luckily, Prashant accepted the offer and even sacrificed 7 projects devoting a year and a half for "Jeans".

Has the dubious distinction of being India's official entry for the 1998 Oscars. It did not get nominated. The decision to favor Jeans over Satya - cinematically a much better film in every aspect - was universally panned in India.

The song "Tauba Tauba " was sampled from Peter Gabriel's song "Oh These Hopes".

In the song "Vaarayo", you can hear Aishwarya Rai calling her grandmother "Miss World". Aishwarya Rai came into the world of movies after she became Miss World in 1994.

The dubbed Hindi version of Jeans had a theatrical release in Canada.

Jeans was the most expensive film to be made in Indian cinema at that time in 1998.

Producer Ashok Amritraj did not work on any Tamil film afterwards despite the success of Jeans.

During the shooting in Paris, Diana, Princess of Wales had died and shooting was delayed as a result of her death.

The audio launch took place in March 1998. To make the audio cassettes more "elegant and memorable", cassette store owners were told to wrap the cassettes in jeans clothing before giving them to customers.

In February 2016, Prashanth reaffirmed that the sequel was in development.

The song "Kehne Ko Daadi" from Jeans was sampled from the song "O Mere Sona Re" from Teesri Manzil. Bombay Vikings song "Mona Re" also was inspired by Teesri Manzil's song.
