Kadhalan Interesting Facts 

The dubbed Hindi version of the soundtrack, Humse Hai Muqabala, sold 2.5 million units in India.

The song "Urvasi Urvasi" was shot near the SPIC building in Guindy and other landmarks across Chennai. Art director Thotta Tharani specially created a glass framed bus for the song.

The ending of Muqabla song was sampled from Dr.Alban song "Mata oh a eh" from the album One Love. King Africa song "El Africano" also sampled the same song.

Part of the ending music at 4:45 of the song "Muqabla Muqabla" song from Humse Hain Muqabla,was later sampled in the song "Deewana Deewana" in Jung (1996),"Rangeela Rangleela" from Muthu Maharaja, "Chanchal Haawaon Se" in Kaun Sachha Kaun Jhoota, "Oye Tere Se Ladki " from Aflatoon" and the intro of "Ladki Deewani Dekho Ladka Dewaana" from Shastra and "Oh Oh Oh Ooa" from Ravaan Raaj. The song "Razi Razi Main Hoon Razi" from Barood also used the same beat. Then again at 0:14 of the song "Naach Mere Jaan Nach" from Mujhe Mere Biwi Se Bachao, then 0:30 of the song "Kambakt Ishq from Pyar Tune Kya Kiya. 0:30 of "Tune Jo Liya Mera Chumma" from Beti No.1 and 0:22 of the song "Hungama Ho Jaye" from Bulundi (2000) also sampled that tune. At 1:01 from the song "Qayamat " from Deewane, the same beat/ sound can be heard. The song "Bardhaasht", at 0:35 from the movie Humraaz. The new version of " Deewana Hoon Main Tera" by Bappi Lahiri and Sunidhi Chauhan, from Love Story 98 ( Deewana Hoon Main Tera) .The original source was from the CD/program, Best Service XX Large 1500 Classic Drumloops. Musicians use this program from music/beat sample's. The music/beat used by bollywood composer's plays at 17:37 in the album/program. The music was also sampled by Dr. Alban in the song "Mata Oh A Eh" from the album One Love. King Africa song "El Africano" also sampled the same beat.

Dubbing voice for Prabhu Deva was provided by then struggling actor Vikram.

Madhuri Dixit was originally considered as the lead actress. Busy schedules meant that Nagma was chosen for the lead role.

The song Mukkabla became popular and was plagiarised freely by tunesmiths and nearly a dozen versions of the song were churned out, a feat that earned Mukkabla and Rahman a place in the Limca Book of Records.

Director Sankar penned the lyrics for the song "Pettai Rap".

The song "Urvasi Urvasi" inspired the title of Rajsirpy's 1996 film Take It Easy Urvashi. Furthermore, the gibberish line "Jil Jung Juk" which was spoken by Vadivelu in the film inspired the title of a film of the same name, released in 2016. "Urvasi Urvasi" was remade as a video song by Yo Yo Honey Singh in 2018 starring Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani. The song "Mukkabla" was remade as "Muqabla" in Hindi for the 2020 film Street Dancer 3D, in which Prabhu Deva stars as one of the leads, and an accompanying video song was released in late 2019 as promotion for the film.

The Hindi version had a theatrical release in Vancouver,British Columbia,Canada. The film premiered at the Regal Theatre, located on 3215 Kingsway Street.

Hip Hop artiste's Will I. am and Cody Wise sampled the song " Urvasi Urvasi" for their song "Its My Birthday".

"Vegas Girl" by Conor Maynard sampled the song "Urvasi Urvasi"

MC Jin song "No More Fans" sampled the song "Urvasi Urvasi".

Bollywood Brass Band did a instrumental version of "Urvashi Urvashi" for the album Rahmania.

" Muqabala Muqabla " song was first remixed in the album Bom Bass. The remix was titled "Muqabala (Murder Mixx)" Remixed by Amit and San J of X Zecutive. This was in 1995.

When the film was getting ready to be dubbed in Hindi, the producers had titled it "Sachcha Premi" . They later decided on a action title.

The song "Urvasi" was later used in the Hollywood film "Lion". During the scene when Dev Patel is walking down the sidewalk laughing and flirting .

The "Muqabla" song was later sampled in Sabse Bada Khiladi song "Mukkala Muqabla Hoga".

The song Muqabla Muqabla was sampled for the song O Mere Sanam from the film Suraksha.

The Laila O Laila song in Judge Mujrim was inspired by the Muqabala Muqabala song in Humse Hain Muqabala.

The dubbed Hindi version Humse Hain Muqabla had a theatrical release in Canada.

The song "O Jaaneman Chehra Tera Jaadu," from the film Raghuveer was sampled from the song Muqabla Muqabla.

The Muqabla Muqabla song was later a source of inspiration for the pop song "Muqabla Hain Pyar Ka" with Rohit Roy . This was released in 1995.

There was a pop song titled "Aye Kudi Phuljadi" by Abhijeet that was sampled from the song "Take It Easy Urvashi".

The song "Urvasi Urvasi, Take It Easy" was inspired by the song "Music and Lights" by Imagination.

Muqabla Muqabla had a remix in the album BMW (Bad Mad Wicked) 3 By DJ Jiten. This was first released in 1996.

Muqabla Muqabla had a remix in the album Kick Back by T.S. Soundz. This was in 1995.

Urvasi Urvasi- Trance Hop Drop was in the album A Bombay Rebel by Magic Mike. This was in 1996.

The music at 1:45 of the song " Muqabla Muqabla" was inspired by the music of the song "Ghostbusters" as 0:44.

The song "Take It Easy" from Veer (1995) was inspired by "Urvashi " from Humse Hain Muqabla.

Producer K T Kunjumon, to turn Kadhalan into as grand a film decided to incorporate the cold war between the then Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa and the then governor Marri Chenna Reddy into the screenplay.

Actor Prashant was the initial choice for the lead role.

Director Shankar was initially reluctant to have Prabhu Deva as a leading actor as distributors felt audience would not watch him as a protagonist because of his "lean physique" and "bearded look". However producer Kunjumon was firm with his choice and wanted to prove distributors wrong.

Producer Kunjumon initially wanted to have Goundamani play Vasanth but, due to scheduling conflicts, Vadivelu was instead chosen to play the character.

Girish Karnad was not initially interested in playing the governor, but after convincing by producer Kunjumon, he agreed.

Kadhalan became the final film to be shot inside the temple premises of Nataraja Temple, Chidambaram after the film's crew was sued by court for shooting inside the temple.

Congress MP Era. Anbarasu expressed ban on the film alleging the negative portrayal of the governor. Producer Kunjumon said he received calls from governor's office ordering him to remove certain scenes from the film. Jayalalithaa who was impressed with the film supported Kunjumon and no scenes were removed.

The "Muqabla Muqabla" song picturization was inspired from the song "Koi Lutera Dil Le Ke" from Wanted (1984).

Prabhudevaa received numerous offers in Hindi after Humse Hain Muqabla released. One story doing the rounds was that Sooraj Barjatya wanted Salman Khan, Madhuri Dixit and Prabhudevaa for his next film after Hum Aapke Hain Koun.

The song "Premika Ne Pyar Se" was sampled from Dr. Alban song "Reggae Gone Ragga".

The beat at 2:40 from the song "Yeh Pyar Yaar Kya Hain" in Daraar, was inspired from the beat in the " Mukalla Muqabla" song at 0:43.

The intro music of "Kali Kali Mein" from Mr. Azaad, was sampled from the intro music of the song's "Muqabla" from Humse Hain Muqabla and "Urvashi" from Humse Hain Muqabla.

The "Muqabla" song was later copied in Pakistani movie "Love 95" as "Mukabla Hain Pyar Ka".

"Club Chennai" by ABOYWITHABAG sampled the song "Muqabala Muqabala" and was released in 2022 on Steve Aoki's DIM MAK Records.
