Here we list the collection of all Tamil Cinema Industry hit movies. The industry hit Tamil movies are the ones that set are blockbuster movies that also set up new box office records in Tamil nadu. These movies are both critically acclaimed and also had extra ordinary box office runs that continued to stay as number one for years, until broken by another industry hit movies. In a rare by great sign, in 2022 there was 2 industry hit movies in same year.  A comeback movie for both Kamal Haasan and director Mani Ratnam.

Ponniyin Selvan 1 - 2022 

Mani ratnam's dream project Ponniyin Selvan with a boquet of actors, had a dream run in the theaters as well. The novels multi decade success helped the first part of the movie get the eagerness from the fans of Tamil movies and the Ponniyin Selvan novel. 

Vikram - 2022 

Kamal haasan's come back blockbuster hit Vikram rewrote the box office numbers and set new records.

Master - 2021

Vijay and Lokesh Kanagaraj first association came with Master movie, which relase was caught up with peak Covid 19 pandemic, it was postponed multiple times. The makers were clear to release only in theaters and not in OTT. It released in Jan 2021 and went to become industry hit amidst the pandemic not even fully eased.

Viswasam - 2019

Ajith's Viswasam, even though released together with Petta on Pongal 2019, did great run with critical reception from family audience and Viswasam emerged as a trend setting family entertainer. 

Baahubali 2 - 2017

SS Rajamouli's Baahubali 2 did extra ordinary run in Tamil nadu after its first part success. Baahubali 2 is the only straight non-Tamil movie that was also made in Tamil (not dubbed) and had success like Tamil movies. 

Enthiran - 2010 

Director shankar and Rajinikanth's second association did the same of what was done by Sivaji in pan India level. Its the first Pan Indian movie for Rajinikanth. 

Dasavatharam - 2008

Kamal Haasan's Dasavatharam where the actor donned 10 had great run in boc office. 

Sivaji - 2007

Director shankar and Rajinikanth's first union came with blockbuster Sivaji 

Chandramukhi - 2005

Because of the terrific run of Indian it became tough for other tamil movies to break its record for over 9 years. Rajinikanth's Chandramukhi became a family blockbuster. 

Ghilli - 2004

Vijay's first industry hit. The family entertainer which is also a remake did wonders in the box office.

Indian - 1996

After Apoorva Sagotharargal, Kamal Haasans second mega pan Indian success came with director Shankar's Indian. With Kamal's Pan Indian appeal and director Shankar's extr ordinary commercial story telling,the movie literally united the nation with its success. The records set by Indian in 1996 are miracles

Baasha - 1995

Rajinikanth's first Tamil cinema industry hit is Baasha in 1995. Though Rajinikanth had blockbuster success before, it did not break the records of Apoorva Sagotharargal to become an industry hit. So Baasha is the first industry hit for Rajinikanth  

Kadhalan - 1994

Directors Shankars bedut Gentleman went on to become blockbuster and rewrite box office records, his second movie Kadhalan with new face Prabhu deva in the lead went on to become a magnum opus musical hit, the craze of Mukkala Muqabla thruough out the nation made the movie a Pan Indian sensation too. In Tamil nadu it created new industry hit records due to mass reception among youth audience and repeat content of the songs and the visual spectacle in the screen

Apoorva Sagotharargal - 1989

Though Kamal's movies like Nayagan had tasted some success in multiple languages, Apoorva Sagotharargal is the first tamil movie that became a pan Indian blockbuster. With the Appu role and the miracles in the screen the movie became a complete game changer in every language it was released. Apoorva Sagotharargal was a complete commercial package and the records set were astonishing. 

Mundhanai Mudichu - 1983

The Magic of bagyaraj's screenplay and the way family audience thronged to the theaters for this silver jubilee movie set up new records for AVM.

Sakalakala Vallavan - 1982 

The Era of Kamal Haasan started. With AVM's became an out and out commercial blockbuster setting up new records in 1982. The record stayed so long in Tamil cinema where its then broken by Kamal Haasan's own movie after 7 years. 

Tirusulam - 1979

Sivaji Ganesan's Tirusulam where he donned triple roles is one of the biggest comeback's in Tamil cinema history set a benchmark in 1979

Ulagam Sutrum Valiban - 1973

MGR's Ulagam Sutrum Valiban said to be the first movie to shot extensively in foreign countries set new records in 1973

Vasantha Maaligai - 1972

Sivaji Ganesan and Vaani sri starring Vasantha Maaligai is the biggest blockbuster and the first industry hit in Tamil cinema in 70s.
